Montréal Duo Making Winnipeg Debut

Sound of the Mountain (Montréal):
Amplified clarinet and trumpet from Montréal.
Filling rooms with the sounds of breath, wind, wood and metal, creating an intimate, overwhelming noise.

From recording on Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s latest to touring the globe relentlessly, this group is pushing the boundaries of sound. Don’t miss their Winnipeg debut!

Workshop at Video Pool

Video Pool Media Arts Centre: Workshop in Sound Free Improvisation, April 20

Join Montreal experimental musicians Elizabeth Millar and Craig Pedersen for a participatory improvisation and sound-art workshop. Instrumentalists, vocalists and sound artists of all backgrounds and experience are invited to attend and develop skills for creating music spontaneously together.

Millar and Pedersen’s improvising-noise-sound-art duo Sound of the Mountain has been on tour since June 2017, across Canada, Japan, South East Asia and Australia. Their focus is on acoustic and electronic textures and sounds through extended techniques on acoustic instruments (trumpet and clarinet), close amplification, and self-made instruments. Join them to play and explore sound, noise and music, through a variety of different approaches to making something together.

Time: 5-7 pm
Cost: $10-20 sliding scale
Location: Video Pool’s 3rd floor studio
Capacity: 12 participants
