The 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society is looking for a medal designer. Approximately 1,800 medals will be presented between July 28 and August 13, 2017, to successful Games competitors.
The 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society and official Co-Hosts, Treaty No.1, Treaty No.3, and the Manitoba Metis Federation, invite recognized artists or graphic designers to submit their qualifications to design the front side of the 2017 Games medals. This opportunity is open to all residents of Treaty No. 1 and Treaty No. 3 territories, members of the Manitoba Metis Federation, Inuit, and all residents of Manitoba and Kenora, who are recognized artists or graphic designers. The opportunity to design the medals for the 2017 Canada Summer Games will bring local and national exposure to the artist or graphic designer and their medal design; leaving a lasting legacy in the community and with the successful athletes.
Submissions should include a completed submission form, a short biography, a written description of the vision or concept of the medal design, and up to three black and white images of previous original artwork. Please note we are not asking for medal design submissions at this time.
The chosen designer will receive the following:
- An honorarium of $2,500 CAD
- 4% royalties on merchandise that incorporates the medal design
- An honorary set of medals
- Two (2) VIP accreditations for the 2017 Canada Summer Games
- Participation in the medal design unveil event (Date to be confirmed)
- Participation in the first medal ceremony during the 2017 Canada Summer Games

About the 2017 Canada Summer Games:
The 2017 Canada Summer Games will be one of the largest multi-sport and cultural events ever hosted in Winnipeg, and will mark the third time the Canada Games have been hosted in Manitoba. Over 4,000 athletes and coaches from across the country will attend to participate in 16 sports and more than 250 events. In addition to events taking place in Winnipeg, Gimli, Manitoba, will host the sailing competition, and Kenora, Ontario, will host the rowing competition. The 2017 Games offer a unique opportunity for our communities to come together and showcase the very best our region has to offer on the occasion of the Games’ 50th anniversary and Canada’s 150th birthday.
