It’s a bird… it’s a plane… no, it’s the first ever Winter Wind Derby at The Forks.
Calling all designers, tinkerers, artists, and everyday gadgeteers to enter their own wind-powered, personal propulsion contraption in hopes of becoming the first ever derby winner!
How it works:
- Design your own propulsion contraption*.
- Register online here.
- Have your contraption ready to go for February 5, 2016.
- Wait for the call. When the winter wind conditions are just right, we’ll contact participants giving them 48 hour notice of when and where we will be meeting for the Winter Wind Derby.
- At the Derby you will be given the opportunity to showcase your contraption and “fly” yourself down a portion of the Red River Mutual Trail (the course may take you under a bridge, so no high flying contraptions allowed). The designer that flies the furthest will be crowned the winner!
*Notice:Contraptions must only be powered by human power and wind. There will be no internal combustion engines, motors, rocket packs, or prefabricated/commercially purchased contraptions allowed in the competition. We encourage builders to hand make their machine with items the already have on hand.
