Messy plates and partially consumed food scattered on a stained tablecloth may not seem like subject matter for serious photography, but in the practiced eye of photographer Laura Letinsky such a setting is transformed into a delicious image. Letinsky, who graduated from the School of Art at the University of Manitoba, draws upon the works of 17th century European still life painters in the production of photographs included in the exhibition Laura Letinsky: Still Life Photographs, 1997-2012.
Now a professor at the University of Chicago, Laura Letinsky will return to Winnipeg for the exhibition reception and artist talk on March 17, and will also teach a 5-day photography workshop, Shallow, neither flat nor deep, at the School of Art, March 14 – 18.
Reception: March 17, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Artist Talk: March 17, 6:30 p.m., 136 ARTlab
Workshop: March 14 – 18, Shallow, neither flat nor deep – the School of Art
