Bibliodérive – Clara Lander Library, Winnipeg Art Gallery
Saturday, November 21
1 – 3:30 (or drop in anytime)
in conjunction with School of Art, University of Manitoba with new art projects by Jean Borbridge and Kristiane Church
Join us for this free and experimental art event – a celebration of artists’ alternative research methodologies, of libraries, archives, books, and printed matter.
A Bibliodérive is based on the Situationist practice of the dérive (a wander through the city). Here we will individually and collectively ‘wander’ through the library and its books: participants will receive prompts to trigger new and unusual ways of interacting with library materials. It will be a fun and experimental exploration, and participants are welcome to come for the whole event or to drop in for a portion.
There will also be two new site-specific art projects made for the event, by Jean Borbridge and Kristiane Church.
Bibliodérives have been hosted in Montréal (various libraries and archives, 2011) and Chicago (School of the Art Institute, 2015). Join us for a Winnipeg iteration, at the Clara Lander Library at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, on Saturday, November 21 from 1 to 3:30pm.
