Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Director/Curator, the School of Art Gallery, the incumbent greets, welcomes and provides the visitors with information and explanations concerning the gallery’s exhibitions and collections. Other primary duties include assisting with the development and implementation of exhibitions in the gallery spaces; increasing the intellectual access to the permanent collection for current users by researching artwork and artists in the permanent collection; drafting key information texts for exhibition and collection purposes; assisting with the installation and take down of exhibitions; audit, inventory, document and cataloguing of works of art in the permanent collection; and updating the collections management database with research conducted.
Education and Experience:
As an ideal candidate, you are enrolled as a student in the field of Art History, Studio Arts, Architecture, Education, Museum Studies, Library Sciences or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience and are eligible to participate in the Young Canada Works program. You should have demonstrable strengths in research and writing, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience handling art, knowledge of database management and Canadian art would be beneficial. Experience working or volunteering in public gallery, museum or library is desirable.
